Jonathan has worked in the construction industry for over 40 years. Predominantly providing quantity surveying, cost consultancy

Initial training and development was in central Manchester on varied projects but predominantly refurbishment housing, volume stock transfers and new build residential developments for housing associations. An opportunity arose to join a national Practice in the North West which provided a more commercial challenge working on large scale shopping centres, blue chip office developments in the financial sector and bespoke residential refurbishments in and around London. The experience provided a particularly sound understanding of good procurement and the need to manage a process financially and contractually within a challenging and demanding environment.

After four years Jonathan moved to a similar Practice in south Manchester, Appleyard & Trew LLP. Following the delivery of numerous retail , housing and education project including a Sterling prize winner in Salford. As part of an expansion plan Jonathan opened a North East office based in Harrogate and succeeded in being appointed an equity Partner in the business. There were further sector developments including undertaking heritage refurbishment roles, delivery of a number of complex and highly successful environmentally controlled pharmaceutical and medical facilities. The changing workplace has provided further opportunities to develop costs and deliver flexible work space environments to very tight time scales and budgets.

Now retired from the Practice Jonathan provides clients with a bespoke consultancy service, and is able to flex to the specific requirements of clients and projects, whilst also providing an advisory role to Local Authorities seeking solutions to major town and city centre regeneration as a member of the RICS Steering Group on the Government’s Regeneration and Levelling Up Agenda.
